Welcome
to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today's featured activity works on movement
off the ball.
This
activity is a regular scrimmage with one MAJOR rule change. A pass can only
be made to a player making a run.
This
might seem like a simple rule to follow but real quickly, you will see
players struggling. In the diagram below, a center midfielder has
possession of the ball and is looking to pass it to an outside midfielder.

Typically,
one of two things is done. Either the passer plays the ball directly to the
outside players feet.

or, the
ball is played into space and then the player makes a run

In this
game. the runner would have to start the run

and
then the pass can be hit

This
game can be played with as few as a 3 v 3 or as many as an 11 v 11
The
purpose of this activity is to encourage movement off the ball. In a real
game, there are times to play a ball to a stationary player but this
activity does an excellent job of encouraging the movement off the ball
needed for success as a team.
